Apply NowOur course is fully funded for students aged 16-19 years and is run in partnership with East Coast College. The course is an Extended Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 3 A Levels) that can also attract extra UCAS points through Trinity College, LAMDA & ISTD Examinations.
D16 provides a supportive environment that fosters not only artistic development but also intellectual and personal development within all its students. The training is based around practical sessions in dance, drama and singing alongside performances where the three skills are brought together. Students will also study the historical, stylistic and professional aspects of the industry.
D16 Performing Arts College celebrates individuality and versatility and prides itself on training students to an extremely high standard. Whatever your favourite style, this course will enable you to develop and progress within all Performing Arts genres and prepare you for the industry or allow you to progress to the next stages of further training/higher education.
The course will allow you the opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your knowledge as a performer. Some of you will have lots of experience in performing and theatre work, others may not, the course will allow a range of learners the opportunity to achieve and succeed.
Our D16 course should be considered if you are interested in any career in Performing Arts but is directly related to jobs such as a dancer (theatre, TV, music videos, film), Musical Theatre Performer, Singer, Actor, Choreographer, teacher or dance therapist.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice (Musical Theatre)
ISTD Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE)
The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) DDE is an initial accredited teaching qualification at Level 4, aimed at students from 17 years or older who wish to begin training as a dance teacher. D16 Performing Arts College offers the DDE in Tap as extra-curricular classes to those students who are taking the BTEC Extended Diploma course. This course runs throughout the academic year and is led by one of the Kalli Cheatle.
The ISTD’s Level 4 DDE is an achievable and streamlined teaching qualification, which provides student teachers with a clear progression pathway to becoming an ISTD qualified teacher (either Licentiate or Level 6 Diploma in Dance Pedagogy) and an overall brilliant introduction to a career in teaching dance.
This course comprises the following five units:
Unit 1: Preparing for Safe Teaching (15 credits at Level 3)
Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice (30 credits at Level 4)
Unit 3: Vocational Graded Examination in Dance: Intermediate (28 credits at Level 3)
Unit 4: Dance Practice (30 credits at Level 4)
Unit 5: Social, Emotional and Cognitive Development (17 credits at Level 4)
Whilst it is not a requirement to have previous ISTD training, you will need to take the ISTD Intermediate Exam of your chosen genre. If you are not sure about whether you have enough experience for this course, please get in touch and our Course Director Kalli Cheatle will be happy to chat with you. This course is open to students aged 17 and over.

Our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre course is tailored towards students that aspire to become a ‘Triple Threat’.
D16 is based within DPA Academy of Dance & Performing Arts and classes will take place there.
Entry requirements for this course are 4 GCSE’s grade 4-9 including English and Maths. The course is fully funded for students aged 16 to 19 with no previous level 3 qualification.

Entry to the college is by audition only. Auditionees will show a satisfactory standard throughout the Open Day.
